OneTouch Verio Flex

To re-start my journey I need to know where I am and where I want to be. It’s obvious I need to continue shedding weight, roughly 40lbs. Other things are not so obvious. Therefore I had blood work done: Complete Blood Count (CBC), Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Creatinine, Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT), Hemoglobin A1C, Lipid Panel, Sodium and Potassium. Oh boy, they took 4 vials of blood!

Within 24 hours I had the results of the 7 tests. Most of those tests say I am doing okay but could be better. ONE test was nuts! Practically off the chart! I may not be a doctor, or fully understand what the number means, but this one alarmed me and my doctor. First off, I do have an appointment set up to talk to my doctor about all the results, especially this ONE test.

The ONE test was the A1C. Without sharing self identifiable data, this is what the test result looks like. A score 12.7 is alarming! I have been identified as having type-2 diabetes. Wow! Uhm? Hmmm? As a result of this diagnosis, I was given a OneTouch Verio Flex Blood Glucose Meter. I am to take test myself every morning before breakfast and every evening before dinner. When I meet with my doctor, we will be going over all this.

This new toy has some bells and whistles. It has an app to help me track my numbers. It has BlueTooth so I do not have to enter my numbers manually, it automatically syncs up. It can export reports… email… It can also talk to LoseIt and Apple Health among a few other apps.

Wish me luck as I make testing myself twice a day a habit and I work to lower and my A1C and reverse this type-2 diabetes diagnosis.
