You Don't Have To Run, YOU CAN WALK

Image
For the past few days Garmin has been having problems so I was not accurately tracking and logging my walk. I knew the distance but the time was approximate. Today was I wasn't sure if my Garmin tracker would work, but I started it up and went for my walk. Well, my normal path was altered so I had to approximate the distance. When trying to establish a new healthy habit, or any new habit for that matter, it takes on average 66 days. I may not be exact on how far I walked or how long it took, but I sure do know I have walked 7 out of past 8 days. Just because I missed one day, it's no reason to throw in the towel. In the long run... in 66 days, missing a day or two won't matter because I WILL have established a new healthy habit. One component needed to loose weight is more movement. I need to move more. I am not ready for strenuous exercise but I can walk. I do not have to sprint, run, or jog, I just need to move more. Walking is perfect for me right now. Knowing exactly ho...

Sneak Fun Exercise In

Image
Get my 10,000 steps in a day is tough. Some days I do well, and then I have long streaks of not being able to hit 5,000 steps. I tend to do a lot of work on my computer or drive around town doing errands. In other words, most days I end up sitting on my bottom for long periods of time. By the end of the day, I'm tired and have no real desire to get up and go exercise intentionally.  Sometimes I make it to the gym, sometimes I don't. My kids are still on winter break so taking a trip to gym or going for a long walk is not feasible. We do have a treadmill and I could get on it and sneak a walk in here and there. I start and get 10 minutes in, then I get distracted with laundry, endless super-important-must-ask-now questions from my kids, or the dog trying to walk on the treadmill with me, or let me just pull this out of the freezer for dinner tonight and then, and then, ... *sigh* It's a new year and I am going to *sketch* out my week and *plan* out one day at a time...

T-4 Days to Getting Back on Track

Image
The busier my day gets, the more I sacrifice my diet and exercise. As usual I got busy with my kid's stuff. While these busy days did not sneak up on me, I couldn't seem to manage my time wisely and I could eat healthy meals. I ended up eating out more than we should. That always hurts my wallet and my waistline. *sigh* My first thought was, "Well, it'll get better next week." Normally, it would. This time I too many unexpected events took place and one week became two, which then slipped into three weeks. I did try to make good choices when eating out. For example, I chose El Pollo Loco over Carl Jr.'s Double Western Burger. Little things like this helped with the calorie intake but it was not enough. I also started sneaking in 10 minute walks any where and any where. If you follow my Facebook page, you probably saw a few of those posts. A couple of walks were not recorded by my FitBit because I forgot to charge it. Bummed they did not recorded, but feel...

Where to Purchase Shoes

Image
My chosen method of exercise is walking. I can do it almost anywhere at almost any time. I have heard of walking referred to as the simplest, easiest, least expensive method of exercise. Least expensive does not mean 100% free. There is no charge to go out and walk around. Walking at the local park is free, but walking at local amusement park is not. Therefore, I will agree, walking can be free but not 100% free. Walking requires I wear shoes. Walking across a bare foot is not for me. Soft grass feels nice but most of the time grass feels like tiny sharp points. It may not be as bad as walking across a floor filled with Legos, but I can't walk on grass for an extended period of time. Walking on a typical street sidewalk is doable, but again, I can not do it for an extended period of time. I need padding otherwise my heal starts to hurt. Walking for me requires having a good pair of shoes. Previously I spoke about knowing if is it time for a new sneakers ? My answer was, yes. Ne...

A Healthy Attitude

The day has drawn to and end and I did not start my juicing. I did make juice and place it in some containers for easy access. Unfortunately my planned day got shifted around practically last minute. My day started out with a 4 mile walk, a good thing. Then chaos showed up. On the plus side, I did count calories. I had almost a full cup of rice crackers, something I rarely have. Because I rarely have rice crackers, I did a poor job of guess-estimating their calories. At the end of the day I am finding out they pushed me over my daily caloric budget by 200 calories. Not too bad, but I'm not happy with it. Lesson learned. I can have them, but in smaller quantities. Tomorrow is a new day. I have my juice set up and a healthy attitude. If anyone is interested in chatting with me, connecting, or just keeping an eye on me throughout the day, I am on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mrs-Gs-Weight-Loss-Journey/198004820241527 I am on Twitter: https://twitter.com/MrsGJourney ...

Can't Run, But I Can Walk

Running seems like something challenging. I can run 20-30 seconds and my body starts to complain. I feel so awkward jogging while my body does the juggling jiggly wobbly dance. I will eventually get to jogging/running a marathon, but that is a bit in the future. I may feel like I can't run, but I can walk. For now I walk and do short spurts of jogging. I jog until I am almost out of breath, then I start walking until I regain normal breathing... then, I repeat. Mostly, I walk. I walk. Today I felt lazy and I did  not want to go out for the walk/ wanna be job. I decided that today I would not try jogging spurts. I went for a 4.75mile walk. Yes, I walked the entire way, which is much better than slacking off and staying home. "All or nothing," and "Go big or go home," are expressions that come to mind when I see sport competitions. I used to have this mentality when it came to exercise as well. If I couldn't do the entire walk the way I wanted/planned, I w...

Small Start

Taking the time to exercise is tough. I seem to put everyone and everything else first. Taking the time for me is difficult for me to do. Today I made progress by at least bringing myself on an equal with others. I need to walk/exercise so today in effort to get some walking in, I took the kids to the Los Angeles Zoo. We were there for 6 hours. The kids enjoyed seeing all the animals and I enjoyed some easy paced walking. We got to take in the "World of Birds," show. A show I, myself, have not seen in over 10 years. It was nice, but must admit, it felt short. Alyssa, you put the cherry on my day by checking in on me. Thank you.
